This half of today's very special blog post is my own nail art in honor of my very best of friends Alix. If you have Instagram and you don't already follow her, go ahead and check her out at @teoqeg!
I had to think long and hard about today's nail art. I thought long and hard enough that I didn't even get it done until tonight. I had a difficult time deciding on something that would really honor what an amazing person and friend Alix has been to me. Everything I drew seemed stupid and boring, or just not enough. Everything was missing something.
I finally decided to just start scrolling back through her feed and suddenly I knew exectly what I wanted to do. You see Alix has this tattoo of Harold and the Purple Crayon on her arm. It wasn't there when we met and I remember when she got it and I've loved it ever since. I even bought one of my favorite polishes off of her to help fund it. So it seems special. Well the mani today is inspired by the tattoo and the book it came from. I hope you like it Alix. I love you to death. Happy Birthday!
I started this mani off with two coats of OPI Alpine Snow, my favorite white creme, then I topped it with one thin coat of Cult Nails Wicked Fast topcoat and let it mostly dry.
After it was dry I used a blue striping polish from Stripe Rite to make the design. I used a similar design to the one in Alix's tattoo, but I made Harold into Alix by adding the blue hair and belt and I added those blue stars that she loves so much to the sky.
Every book needs a title right? I added the title of this mani to my thumb.
After the design was dry I added a thick coat of Seche Vite to smooth out any ridges.
As a very final step I painted on one coat of Essie Matte About You matte topcoat. The inspiration for this is a book and I wanted it to look like the pages, so matte was a no brainer.
I am so happy with how these came out and Alix I hope you love them and you know how much you mean to all of your friends. You are truly one of a kind!
xoxo

Storm, it's so thoughtful of you to honor your special friend in this way. Nail polish can be more than just a mere cosmetic -- it is art, self-expression, poetry, and deep meaning. And it makes us feel pretty!! What a great manicure today.
